The brief called for a flexible access control system that provides a secure environment without the use of surface mounted electromagnetic locks and with the minimum of visual ironmongery on each door in order to depict a smart contemporary appearance. Carefully considering the range of the possible lock options on the market, Jeremy Barltrop of G Johns and Sons, selected the highly specified Securefast ASEL2460 Electric Escape lock as the ideal locking solution to meet the client’s requirement. Complimented with Karcher Stainless Steel lever handles and connected via heavy duty conductor hinges to a reader on the outside of each door, the Securefast ASEL 2460 Electric locks were fitted to each pair of doors on each landing of the five story building. The Securefast Electric Locks were particularly selected for the brands proven quality, ease of use and total reliability. Since the client did not require overriding cylinders, the unique features of the ASEL2460 delivered across a wide range of benefits including, a magnetic latch bolt, which latches when the door is fully closed and requires only light closing pressure rather than the force usually required to operate a conventional latch bolt spring. The lock also automatically throws the deadbolt when the door is fully closed, increasing the security on each door. By contrast, from inside the room, both bolts can be fully withdrawn in one action by operating the lever handle, allowing for a smooth, safe emergency egress. This feature enables the client to fully control entry to each floor either via the lift or staircase using a proximity card or to exit safely using the internal lever handle fitted to the lockcase. Jeremy Barltrop commented that the Securefast Electric Lock was an obvious choice because, in addition to its high quality and reliability, the locking and unlocking of the door is extremely quiet, with the minimum of sound from the mechanism throwing or withdrawing the latch or deadbolt, making the ASEL 2460 the ideal product for a quiet office environment.
