Door Industry Journal - Spring 2012

43 THE door industry journal spring 2012 garage doors NO POWER.... NO PROBLEM WITH AN X-BOX Sommer UK have reported growing interest and enquiries for its Aperto X-BOX garage door operator. The operator works independently of mains electricity meaning it’s perfect for a garage that is away from the main residence in an outbuilding or in a row of communal garages. The operator is powered by an X-BOX battery pack mounted onto a bracket on the garage wall. Due to energy-saving technology the unit can be operated for weeks without the need for recharging, but when the time comes, it’s extremely simple. The X-BOX will give an acoustic and visual signal that it needs recharging and the homeowner simply lifts the X-BOX off the wall-bracket and plugs it into any standard household socket to charge. The operator will continue to work while the batteries are being charged and Sommer include two X- BOX battery units as standard. The X-BOX maintains a constant output current to ensure the operator always gives a consistent performance. This means the charging status of the battery will not affect the force values and constant speed of the carriage. If the homeowner wants complete independence from mains electricity, the X-BOX can be re-charged from an optional solar panel or even from an optional car charger. As the X- BOX has an integral charge controller for the solar module, the solar module can also be retrofitted at any time. The X-BOX will work with almost all types of garage door, except roller doors, and offers a new and growing opportunity to garage door installers to find new sales with a product which homeowners will value. Sommer have produced an X-BOX flyer which can be personalised for you to use to generate enquiries in your area.
