French manufacturer Deprat, through its UK distributor JD UK is launching a new barrel assembly that is specifically designed to be an alternative to the traditional 4 inch 16swg barrel for smaller industrial and commercial roller shutters. Deprat and JD UK have a long association in the UK supplying the Deprat barrel assembly to Roller garage door manufacturers and wish to build on that success. Pictured (on left) is Arnaud de Contenson, MD of Deprat, inspecting the Deprat stock that is destined for the UK to cope with the increasing demand for the product, with JD UK MD Steve Hudson. Several manufacturers of galvanised roller shutters currently use the Deprat system and have commented on the ease of manufacturing in comparison to the traditional method. Harry Barker, Director of SGG commented: “We had manufactured our Galvanised roller shutters from 4 inch 16 swg barrel for years and were quite happy to continue using it, as it is the market norm. However after trying the Deprat system our speed of production has increased significantly, as has our defect rate decreased. The Deprat system may cost a little more to start with, but in the end it saves us a meaningful amount of money – I for one wouldn’t go back to 4” 16 swg, it’s old hat!” The system comprises a galvanised barrel, so no painting required, with a groove in the barrel that allows a fixing to be slid along the barrel to attach the curtain, then eliminating the need for welding. A variety of dummy end fixings are available to suit a safety brake or a standard bearing end. Deprat also offer a patented spring system, that is tailor made for fine adjustment of balancing push up galvanised roller shutters. A simple to follow chart is offered to work out exactly which spring would be required to accurately balance the shutter. All sizes of spring and components are held at JD UK for immediate delivery nationwide. For further detail please contact Steve, Kevin, Pat or Andy for technical details, prices or just a small sample to see how it fits together. JD UK has reported an increase in customers manufacturing their own aluminium continental shutters. Traditionally people would buy in pre made shutters, but with the off the shelf availability in the UK of all the necessary components to manufacture continental shutters, companies that are already manufacturing other types of shutters are taking the opportunity to save a substantial amount of money and reduce the lead time by using the manpower and resource they have in house. One of their customers who manufacture galvanised shutters in house, won a project for five 44mm extruded aluminium window and door shutters. They were quoted £2200 from one of the leading suppliers of pre made shutters compared with buying the material in kit form from JD UK they saved over £1200 on this job alone. Apart from saving some real some money, the material was delivered in a few days allowing the shutters to be manufactured immediately. JD UK provide a full service, that will include calculating the amount of material required for specific door sizes. Material is delivered on JD’s own transport within a few days of ordering to any UK location. All material is available in stock, from lath, guides, hood, barrel, end plates etc. A range of popular colours are available in addition to mill finish to allow for powder coating. Different types of lath are available from 44mm and 55mm solid extruded, to 56mm and 84mm punched lath, with the option of 77mm lath that will allow polycarbonate glazing. For those companies currently fabricating steel shutters the transition to manufacturing extruded aluminium shutters is really straight forward. Alutech commissioned external testing company’s such as TUV to carry out the necessary tests to ensure all products meet with the strict CE regulations. JD UK are happy to provide a full technical construction file, that has been compiled with the assistance of the DHF that, providing the door is fabricated within a controlled factory environment will comply with all current CE regulations.
