Door Industry Journal - Spring 2014

spring 2014 THE door industry journal Members are becoming increasingly aware that having highly trained staff gives them the competitive edge over their competitors who do not hold training in such high store. More and more members are looking to the DHF to provide improved training opportunities for them, and we are actively rising to that challenge. “Raising standards” has been the DHF clarion call for a long time now and we have highlighted training as an essential part of our programme to drive up standards during 2014. By delivering a wider range of technical training that cannot easily be met elsewhere, the DHF will further improve standards of competence in the industry. It will also differentiate DHF members from non members and give increased recognition of the federation as an authoritative industry organisation. We are about to appoint a full time training manager. He will be responsible for the training schemes already being run and will be developing new courses to provide training for members across all industry sectors represented by the DHF. So where are we up to now with our training? In a separate article on page 6 we describe in detail the various training initiatives we have in place. These include schemes of particular appeal to installers and inspectors of powered gates, and those involved in the inspection, installation, maintenance and repair of fire doors. With the new DHF training manager on board in April, we will be able to further accelerate our training plans. These will encompass the industrial door and shutter sector during 2014 as well as the garage door sector.
