Door Industry Journal - Spring 2015

Also online at: www.dijonline.co.uk 16 THE door industry journal spring 2015 industry news feature A bit of a do After years in the industry, it was discovered that Mel Lovatt was retiring, so we couldn’t let him go without a send off! Heads were put together and with Mel’s love of blues music, the idea was hatched to put on a Blues Brothers themed party. On than the 17th January, more than 60 friends and colleagues donned their black trilbies and sunglasses, and laid in wait to spring the ‘surprise’! ‘Desperado’ played (minus the usual backing singers!) as he entered the room and we did it! Mel was rendered speechless, which as we all know, is no mean feat! Not only for Mel but for everyone who attended, it was a great opportunity to catch up with those familiar faces not seen for years, have a drink, and reflect on good times. Mel retired in December, departing on 6th February for Singapore, with destinations planned such as Melbourne, Adelaide, Sydney and Hong Kong and then back down to earth, arriving at Leeds Bradford Airport at the end of the trip! Enjoy retirement Mel, we’ll all miss you. Don’t forget “It's 10,497 miles to Sydney, we’ve got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses..... Hit it!” Photography © Freelance Design & Graphics
