Door Industry Journal - Spring 2015

spring 2015 THE door industry journal Early in 2015 we welcomed our 300th member into the DHF. Membership is now at its highest level ever and our rate of growth is accelerating. Why are companies in the door, hardware and powered gate sectors finding membership of the DHF so useful to them? In the case of sliding door system company Hillaldam Coburn, our 300th member, the reason was clear. The company wanted access to the extensive knowledge base on technical issues, latest standards and new legislation that only DHF members can access. Hillaldam Coburn recognised, too, that DHF actually helps frame many of the standards and legislation that impact on our industry. We work with BSI in this country and sit on standards- setting CEN committees in Europe to ensure our voice is heard at the highest level. So there are many members like Hillaldam Coburn who see DHF membership as a means of ensuring they are kept abreast of new standards and legislation and belong to a trade association which has a strong voice in Europe. But other companies see different benefits in membership of a strong trade federation like ours. I am confident we have identified the various needs of these members and are meeting them. For example, we heavily promote the DHF brand and what it stands for. This helps give marketing clout to those members who appreciate that being able to use the DHF logo on their vans, websites and promotional material gives them the commercial edge over their non-member competitors. It shows their customers that they meet the stringent DHF Quality Assured Standards and Codes of Practice. Companies in our sector are increasingly embracing the importance of training to ensure they are delivering high quality and safe products and services to their customers. Recognising this we now have our own dedicated training officer on the Tamworth team for the benefit of members. More than 250 powered gate installers and specialists have now successfully completed the DHF powered gate safety diploma training course. This number is set to rise to 500 by the end of the year. We are actively developing training courses for both the Industrial Door and Garage Door Groups and are providing training courses on the maintenance and in installation of fire doorsets and roller shutters. As DHF membership continues to grow, I’m confident we will be welcoming the 350th company into our ranks by the end of this year. Meanwhile I’ll continue with these regular information updates on member benefits in this column.
