Naturally, the selection process will need to ensure that the door closer meets the performance requirements stipulated by legislation, building document and published as well as any which are relevant to the specific application. Fire resistance and accessibility will be paramount. As a minimum, door closers should carry the CE marked to denote their suitability for use on fire resisting door sets and, to assure accessibility, they should enable a door to meet the requirements of Approved Document M (AD M) of the Building Regulations in England and Wales (Section 4 in Scotland and Part R in Northern Ireland ) and BS 8300. Door closer selection is, however, far more involved than merely looking at performance and choosing the right door closer can make a valuable contribution to the quality of the guest experience as well as the safety of the hotel. Hotel projects demand a broader range of considerations when selecting door closers. These include aesthetics, reliability, hygiene and safety.
