Woodrite Stops the Rot with Accoya ® The eye-catching 10-year warranty on finish sets Accoya ® apart from other timbers. If you haven’t come across Accoya ® it is now the go-to material for the building industry. Accoya ® ’s manufacturers state that the timber is “Guaranteed for 50 years above ground and 25 years in ground or freshwater” – impressive! Woodrite and their stain partner Teknos are consequently very confident in their warranty of up to 10-year on the door’s finish!? Why does wood rot? Wood contains an abundance of chemical groups called ‘free hydroxyls’. Free hydroxyl groups absorb and release water according to changes in the climatic conditions to which the wood is exposed. This is the main reason why wood swells and shrinks. It is also believed that the digestion of wood by enzymes initiates at the free hydroxyl sites – which is one of the principal reasons why wood is prone to decay. What is Acetylation? Acetylation effectively changes the free hydroxyls within the wood into acetyl groups. The manufacturing process adds nothing into the wood that does not already occur within it, but ‘fixes’ the structure to resist rot and eliminate water absorption. The key benefits • Up to 10-year finish warranty • Matchless dimensional stability – minimal swelling or shrinkage • No tannin leaching • Properties that match the best hardwoods, but lighter, ideal for garage doors • The ideal base for painting or staining to match other timbers • Sustainable, made from abundant fast-growing timber (Radiate Pine) PEFC and FSC certified • The Acetylation process adds nothing to the wood, other than dramatically improved performance “Accoya ® is not only an outstanding material, it’s well priced too, meaning high performance doesn’t cost silly money” Said Sharon Cleaver, Woodrite’s Sales Director. The Accoya ® range includes side hinged garage doors, up and over garage doors, matching personnel doors and driveway gates.
