Door Industry Journal - Spring 2024

OPEN DOORS Compliance plus Competence plus Continuous Learning equals Confidence Following the Grenfell tragedy in June 2016, Dame Judith Hackitt called for a competent workforce in her Independent Review of Building Regulations and Fire Safety final report released in May 2018. This was closely followed by the Implementation Plan in December of the same year. Here we are, just over five years after its release and the word competence is now thrown around the industry with ease, but, do people fully understand what proving it means? In the bustling offices of dhf, competence isn’t just a buzzword, it’s at the heart of everything we do. Picture this: over the course of a year, our technical team has tackled a staggering six thousand technical queries. Each query isn’t just a problem to solve or an affirmation that what the person doing is correct, it’s a testament to the industry’s collective push towards doing things right - Compliance. And then, there’s our pride and joy, the training we offer. Last year saw the 5000th learner complete our ever-increasing educational programme. It’s a moment that speaks volumes. It’s not just about hitting a milestone, it’s about knowing that competence is front and centre for the year ahead - Competence. And then there’s our webinars. We’ve hosted over 20 of them in the last 12 months, attended by over 250 industry members, each one a carefully crafted session designed to spark discussion, inspire improvement, and drive progress and, to top it off, participants have racked up over 170 hours of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in total. That’s dedication in action – Continuous Learning. So, as we move forward, we carry this anecdote with us – a tale of compliance, competence and continuous learning equals confidence. Because in our world, that’s what sets us apart and we make no apology for it … A regular comment column, brought to you by Bob Perry, CEO, Door and Hardware Federation For more information, please visit www.dhfonline.org.uk THE door industry journal spring 2024 Also online at: www.dijonline.co.uk Bob Perry, dhf CEO Miller Edge Appoints New President Miller Edge CEO, Bearge Miller, announced the promotion of Flossie Miller to the office of President.
