Door Industry Journal - Summer 2012

summer 2012 THE door industry journal One of the key roles of the DHF is keeping the members informed about the work the federation carries out on their behalf. In that respect, for a long time now, Inside Track, the members’ own newsletter, has been a key part of that process. Originally it was a printed newsletter, delivered by post. More recently, in line with members’ wishes and to save cost, it was delivered online. However, it has become clear that not all members are receiving their emailed copies of Inside Track. Some members said they no longer had the time to read Inside Track online and preferred a printed version. So whilst we are reviewing the situation we have decided to discontinue Inside Track in its present form and will be communicating with members in different ways. Firstly we have recently been trialling “Dashboard”, a simple emailer to executive and marketing committee members. It has been well received and so it will now be issued monthly to the full DHF membership. And secondly, we are increasing the amount of federation and industry news here in the Door Industry Journal, now it has established itself as the premier publication for the door industry. The whole aspect of communication with members will be part of the brief that we are now putting together for the development of the new website. Continuing on the communication theme meeting members face to face is an important part of our programme, and all members are urged to attend their own focus group meetings. Some of these meetings will be developed into seminars over the coming months to help members understand the forthcoming changes in CE mark legislation. In this issue of Door Industry Journal (on page 6) there is an article about the first of these seminars held in June which was particularly well attended by members. Finally I would like to remind members that the DHF minimum technical membership standards are now in force. All members need to comply with these standards. Technical advice and support is on hand at Tamworth head office for any company needing help. The standards are now being enforced, and we recently appointed Don Sowley as our inspector of the scheme to help us police the new standards.
