Door Industry Journal - Summer 2014

summer 2014 THE door industry journal Gate Safety Week is just a few weeks away. Organised by the DHF’s Powered Gate Group, Gate Safety Week is designed to raise awareness of the dangers that automated gates pose, and to advise everyone on how to choose safe gates or make their existing gates safe. The week of action takes place from October 13 - 19 and is designed to improve the safety of automated gates in the UK. But there’s been plenty happening before that. In the months running up to the event, the DHF and its powered gate members have been campaigning hard to raise awareness of the risks associated with automated gates. It is estimated that than two thirds of all automated gates installed in the UK do not comply with current legislation and could pose a serious safety risk. Equally worrying is the fact that unsafe installations are still being carried out by unqualified installers and gate companies who are quite willing to take dangerous short cuts in both gate manufacture and installation. The DHF’s powered gate members are planning special events focussing on gate safety in the run up to Gate Safety Week. The DHF is also partnering with a number of influential organisations in the safety, enforcement, inspection, education and security sectors who are lending their support to the campaign. With around 70 per cent of existing powered gate installations thought to be non compliant, we must all take powered gate safety very seriously. I’m confident that with the backing of our powered gate group members and the team at Tamworth, Gate Safety Week will play a vital part in significantly raising levels of gate safety. Visit our website to see how you can help spread the vital message about automated gate safety.
