Door Industry Journal - Summer 2016

Also online at: www.dijonline.co.uk THE door industry journal summer 2016 OPEN DOORS TRAINING, TRAINING AND MORE TRAINING! The last few months have seen a significant expansion in the federation’s training offering. Building on the success of the powered gate Safety Diploma course, we introduced training courses for our industrial door and garage door members. Of course, in addition, we also (in conjunction with BRE) offer training courses for the inspection, installation, maintenance and repair of both timber and steel fire doors, and roller shutter doors. The opportunity to take up safety training has been warmly embraced by DHF members. A grand total of 750 have now successfully completed their safety training. Naturally, the bulk of those have been on the powered gate course, which has been running for nearly three years. But it is heartening to see our industrial and garage door members realising the benefits of safety training. There have now been a total of 12 training sessions held for IDG and GDG members which have attracted more than 100 delegates. Regular Safety Diploma courses are taking place throughout the summer and autumn, and places are booking up fast. Increasingly, our members are realising the business benefits of having expert, qualified and trained personnel with the ability to supply, install and maintain products which are legal and safe. The vision of the federation has long been to establish DHF companies as the recognised source of products and services which are legally compliant and are both quality and safety assured Up to now, training has been delivered by Nick Perkins our training officer, and Michael Skelding, our general manager. The continuing high demand for DHF training has led us to appoint a third trainer. Dave Hall has many years’ experience in the door industry and is also a certified NVQ assessor. His training skills and knowledge of our industry makes Dave a valuable and welcome addition to the team. The powered gate Safety Diploma is now widely recognised as the most respected qualification available in the industry. In its field, the actual training content and programme is unquestionably the pre-eminent and most comprehensive in the UK and - possibly - in the world. It won’t be long before DHF training in the industrial door and garage door sectors receives the same recognition and respect.
