Door Industry Journal - Summer 2019

7 THE door industry journal summer 2019 Also online at: www.dijonline.co.uk Industry News current warehouse and office facilities have become increasingly cramped and didn’t allow for expansion. The new build is an impressive environment designed with staff and customers in mind. Space to grow – an impressive 28,000 square feet of space allows a much larger stock holding and will allow for a greater variety and range of products to be stocked. The business has already taken advantage of this extra space to increase stock levels in a move intended to mitigate for the impact of a no deal Brexit. Bespoke design – building to GfA’s unique requirements has enabled dedicated space to be designed for electrical assembly and returns and testing. The new electrical assembly area is sealed off with high speed fabric roller doors to protect the area from any dust or other pollutants. Space to train – in 2018 GfA ran training sessions for 124 people from 22 organisations and had waiting lists for training sessions. The new premises provide state of the art AV facilities, a flexible training room which can accommodate up to 50 delegates as well as an area for practical, hands-on product training. Impressive and aspirational – attracting the top talent is crucial if succession planning and future expansion plans are to be fulfilled. In the local area GfA compete for staff with the likes of Jaguar Land Rover and their supplier base. Recognising that an attractive working environment, with all the latest facilities, is one of the factors influencing recruits, GfA has invested in a set up that is designed to draw and retain the younger generation and impress experienced engineers. Location, location, location - the building, on a new business park just outside of Warwick, is only minutes from the M40 with access to the full UK motorway network. It means it’s ideally situated for customers who will visit for meetings and training sessions, as well as providing easy access to the road network for deliveries dispatched from the warehouse. Investment in people - the investment in the new building comes alongside an ongoing commitment to developing and supporting employees. “Over the last 18 months the company has developed a set of shared core values, which all members of staff have contributed and committed to”, says Andrew Collett. “At the heart of this work is a sense of trust, respect and commitment and we believe the design of the building, with the same quality finishes being provided on the shop floor as myself and the other managers have is just one demonstration of the equality we believe in and want to deliver for all employees. It’s little things like the canteen facilities which are now communal rather than being segregated over two floors that signals a different atmosphere which the staff are all embracing”. Customers will be invited to visit the new premises over the coming months and training sessions for fitters and sales personnel are already booking up fast. The decision by GfA’s shareholders in Germany to invest in a brand-new warehouse and office facility is just one demonstration of their commitment to the success of the UK business.
