The intention of this column is to give you advice on how to improve your marketing communications – websites, emails, brochures etc. As a copywriter, It’s my job to sell with words and I hope you can benefit from my experience. Here’s my latest tip: Here’s my latest tip: Before you write any marketing material, you must remind yourself that nobody has the slightest desire to read what you’re about to write. It may seem harsh, but it’s true. Absolutely no-one wakes up in the morning with a desire to read a marketing email, sales letter, landing page, Facebook ad, website or anything else that’s there to sell. Fact is, people have better and more important things to do – work has to be done, children need looking after, dogs must be walked, food has to be cooked etc etc. Taking the time to read your marketing literature comes very far down this list of priorities. What you write must cut through all the clutter and chatter in someone’s life. So, before you prepare your marketing, think hard about what your customer wants to hear. Martin on Marketing
