Laidlaw Interiors Group (LIG) has supplied ironmo ngery and doorsets as part of a £19 million pound refurbishment of the Bristol Old Vic. LIG supplied a range of products from Laidlaw Solutions and Leaderflush Shapland for the refurbishment of the Bristol Old Vic. The full scale renovation, which included ev erything from electrics to carpets and sea ts, aimed to update the 1970s décor and make the theatre fit for modern day usage. LIG companies’ products were fitted to both the back of house and throughout the Georgian Theatre Royal - the oldest working theatre in the country. In recognition of the strong historical architecture, Laidlaw produced bespoke bronze pull handles and ironmongery for inside the actual theatre, to ensure it remained sympathetic to existing elements. The back of house was fitted with ironmongery from the Orbis Commercial range where functionality reigned over aesthetic finish. Leaderflush doors, from their Audiodoor range, were fitted throughout the actual theatre because of the specialist acoustic requirements. The doors provide acoustic performance of up to 40dB, meaning performances can go on undisturbed. The work was started in February 2011 and has offered a fascinating insight into the early origins of the theatre, uncovering the original flag flooring of the pit and pit corridors. Sarah Smith is the project director who oversaw the upgrade of the buildings in this phase of the project. “The overall aim was to make the buildings fit for purpose for the 21st Century, this included a full refit of the Theatre Royal, a 1766 Georgian theatre and all adjoining buildings to provide greater comfort and better suit the various artistic endeavours that happen in the space. However it also aims to be sympathetic to the historical design and this is why we brought Laidlaw Solutions and Leaderflush Shapland in for our ironmongery and doorset requirements.” This phase of the Bristol Old Vic project was completed in the summer and the theatre reopened in September. PC HENDERSON COMMITTED TO ULTRA SECURITY WITH SECURED BY DESIGN Leading sliding and folding door hardware manufacturer PC Henderson is celebrating its double achievement of attaining PAS24 and Secured by Design accreditation for its innovative Securefold Ultra system, effectively complementing its existing European BS EN 1627 security status. Securefold Ultra is a new security concept for residential and commercial exterior folding doors. With all the benefits of Henderson’s existing Securefold product the Ultra system features an additional layer of cleverly designed, enhanced security components making it one of the most secure systems on the market. Securefold Ultra has three points of locking on every door seam; including an attack resistant hinge incorporating a security pin and unique central interlocking hinge leaf that prevents a burglar from tampering with or actually removing the hardware from the door. There is also a flush bolt manufactured from extruded aluminium incorporating a 10mm diameter 316 stainless steel bolt which Henderson says is impervious to any attack or potential break-in, and, to make the Securefold Ultra even more burglar proof, all hardware incorporates security screws to prevent it from being disengaged from the hinge. Certification demands an attack resistant hinge incorporating security pins, a hinge bolt and central interlocking hinge leaf preventing a burglar from tampering or removing the hardware from the door ensuring three points of locking on every seam. Achieving both Secured by Design and BS accreditation could attract lower insurance premiums where Securefold Ultra is fitted, making it the must-have door and window hardware in both domestic and commercial settings. *Securefold Ultra has been tested to the European security standard BS EN 1627:2011 to ensure that the enhanced Ultra system meets the requirements to be firmly classified burglar resistant.
