Door Industry Journal - Winter 2013

Also online at: www.dijonline.co.uk THE door industry journal winter 2013 SAFETY LIGHT CURTAINS FROM IN2 ACCESS The LIGI safety light curtain has been developed especially for safety applications on Industrial doors and is fully compliant with current standards. Due to the very small housing LIGI can be installed directly in the door channel. The new type of encapsulation protects the electronics, makes it vibration proof and gives a high degree of protection IP67. The LIGI intelligent, self-contained safety light curtain is available with 3 beam spacing variants and generates a dense curtain of infrared light beams, evenly spaced at 45mm (Variant A, 56 beams), covering a height of up to 2512 mm with a sensing range of 1.6m to 4m & 4m to 10m (Selectable). The system replaces the more traditional safety edge solutions and reduces on-going maintenance costs of damaged cable replacements etc. Variant B has 1072mm of 45mm beam spacing protecting the base of the door and the rest at 180mm spacing (33 beams). Variant C has 352mm of 45mm beam spacing covering the base of the door and the rest at 180mm spacing (21 beams) which can be connected directly into the OSE safety input available in most modern control panels. The Sequential Blanking function of the LIGI allows the units to be conveniently positioned in the guide tracks of a door, where the door travels directly in front of the protected area, interrupting the beams sequentially from top to bottom. The system can distinguish between the closing door and an object or person, ignoring the beams that are interrupted by the moving door, leaving the remaining beams active to detect an object or person in the doorway. Furthermore the LIGI has a special function “partial opening”. If the door is stopped inside the protected field, this would still be classed as a normal operation and closes normally from this position. All three variants (A, B & C), are housed in a slim 16mm x 16mm, IP67 aluminium profile, ensuring that they can be installed in all types of doors. The LIGI can be installed as a safety sensing device in roller shutters, sectional, high-speed, cold rooms and fire-resistant doors and comply with EN12453 and EN12978. The LIGI is therefore particularly suitable for older door systems that exceed the permitted max force-limits. The LIGI performs reliably in the most demanding environments and conditions, which include direct sunlight, reflections, vibrations, dust and water. Its fully encapsulated design also eliminates any condensation build up which can be found in traditionally manufactured light curtains and each kit comes complete with fixing clips, a 5m and 15m cable. Other sizes and output variants are also available in this range of light curtains along with a range of safety relays and controllers etc. - find out more at www.in2access.co.uk
