Door Industry Journal - Winter 2013

winter 2013 THE door industry journal Standards - and more precisely Raising Standards - are at the heart of the DHF. In that respect below is a copy of a letter which I sent out to all DHF members in October. The message is simple...no further words are necessary. Dear member The DHF Mission Statement is “Deliver commercial benefit to members by raising standards”. To achieve this, we must ensure that our members are operating within the law and are also abiding by our own DHF Quality Assured Standards. The Machinery Directive has been operable since the mid 1990s and the DHF Quality Assured Standards have been in existence since April 2012. Given these timescales, I am sure you will agree that it is unacceptable to allow any DHF member to operate outside the law, or not comply with our own standards. It is now apparent, often as a result of a visit by our DHF audit inspector, that some members fall into this category. Therefore, we are at a stage where certain members will be suspended and subsequently have their membership terminated. Clearly, we do not want to lose members. However, we cannot continue to allow members to operate illegally or outside our own Quality Assured Standards. To do so would undermine our message to architects, specifiers and the general public. The principal commercial objective of the DHF is to generate more business for its members and that must be underpinned by an assurance that all DHF members are complying with the law and our own federation standards. I hope very much that you will agree with our course of action and support us in this process. Should you have any queries, then please do not hesitate to contact me.
