The firm’s latest innovation is the launch of a series of web videos called the Garage Door Channel. This series of short films is designed to showcase the company’s range and explain to end consumers about the advantages of choosing AlluGuard products. Each of the short videos – which are all shot on location – explores the features and benefits of sectional and roller doors in an ‘FAQ’ format. Themes include how doors keep out leaves and daylight through a combination of weather seal and fur pile, a demonstration of remote control, and more information on why the AlluGuard 77 is accredited by Secured by Design - the initiative from the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) that supports the principle of ‘designing out crime’. AlluGuard MD Gary Brooks says the main aim of the videos is to support the firm’s print-based marketing materials – and help the company’s resellers – through a web-based resource. “One of the most challenging aspects of sales and marketing is trying to demonstrate features and benefits using the written word and photos,” he explains. “It’s very difficult, which is why we came up with the idea for the Garage Door Channel. Video allows us to very clearly demonstrate the advantages of our doors and show the viewer how certain difficulties can be overcome by using roller doors and sectional doors. “This is a massive boost for our dealers, as their customers can now get the answers to most questions just by watching a short film. This provides a real sales boost as the more someone knows about a product the more likely they are to part with their cash.” There are a handful of videos currently available via the AlluGuard website and these will be added to approximately every two to three weeks, building up a comprehensive online resource that will enhance sales activity. Email marketing campaigns sent out by the company will also link to the videos. Each video is presented by Gary himself, which he explains was a conscious decision: “When we started planning these videos we looked into the possibility of using an actor to present each film, but in the end it was decided that having me as the front man would be the best solution. You’ve now got the guy that runs the company talking about how our doors work and how they help you. This says we’re a trustworthy firm that stands behind the quality of our products.” However, as Gary admits, things didn’t always run smoothly during filming: “It might look easy but it took a good few takes to get each video right – there was plenty of swearing, mistakes and fluffed lines along the way.
