Door Industry Journal - Spring 2022

OPEN DOORS If at first, you don’t succeed …. try, try and try again. Many people have been credited with this saying and it is reported that Robert the Bruce, King of Scotland, said it to his troops before the Battle of Bannockburn in 1314. Certainly, it is a phrase that is widely used at the dhf offices in Shuttington in relation to matters of compliance, particularly involving garage doors, industrial doors and automatic gates. In the industries that we represent, dhf training courses are highly regarded and very well supported by our members. But, attending the training courses is just the start; it’s what happens after then that determines how successful the process has been to the individual and the company. It is not a boxticking exercise. Compliance and training have to be championed by the owners and directors of companies and then fed through the organisation - no ifs, no buts - and, to be frank, we come across far too many situations where that is not happening. That’s where we try, try and try again to get ‘buy in’ and management understanding. The magnitude of the issue is demonstrated by the fact that we currently have 40 companies who have joined dhf, completed the training requirement but not satisfactorily completed the complimentary conformity assessment (CCA). Therefore, they remain Affiliate members, meaning that they don’t appear on our website, they won’t get a membership certificate, and they can’t display the dhf logo The message is simple: training and compliance are not achieved by attending a one or two-day training course; it needs to be in the company’s DNA and a permanent ongoing key performance indicator and of course, it is also important that companies encourage and support their employees to achieve their relevant NVQs. Details of NVQs are available on the ESA (Entrance Systems Alliance) website (https://www.esa.uk.com/) which is a company jointly formed by the Door & Hardware Federation and the Automatic Door Suppliers Association. The new website features more detailed, accurate and up-to-date information on the company’s wide range of products and has been designed to be easier to navigate so each visitor can find exactly what they’re looking for and more! National Sales Manager for JD (UK) LTD, Jason Wade, explains, “When a company has the wide variety of product options available as we do, it’s easy for the website visitor to get lost in the various categories/ subcategories. So, in our new website, we really try to guide the user through the various product styles and options available without confusing them and while explaining each product’s main features and benefits.” The new website has a fresh, modern look and also features updated product images so that the user can have a more informed idea of all the styles and designs available. The online door designer has also had a considerable upgrade to include all the colours, designs, styles and textures available. What’s more, it is quicker and easier to use than the previous door designer. And the website now has a dedicated page for trade customers and one for homeowners, making it an invaluable sales tool and point of reference for anyone installing or looking to purchase an Alutech garage door or automation. You can view the relaunched website now at www.jdukltd.co.uk or by scanning the QR code. If you would like to speak to one of their friendly team about any of the products, please call 01924 472924.
